Crystal Palace defender seals Preston move

Tom Ince The pool table in The Transfer Tavern is a hive of activity with Preston fans gathering round their phones looking at their Sky Sports app.

News has been confirmed that they have signed Paddy McCarthy on a loan deal until the new year.

Preston currently in the relegation spots in the Sky Bet Championship have been looking at options to shore up their leaky defence and escape the dreaded trap door to League One, where they gained promotion from just last May in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium.

McCarthy has a wealth of experience that is needed at Deepdale, having played for the likes of Leicester City and Charlton Athletic and knows life in the Championship well.

His line of no nonsense defending is just what Simon Grayson will be looking for to aid his underachievers so far this season.

Speaking to Preston’s official website about his move North, McCarthy said:

“I’m delighted to be here, when I heard there was interest I jumped at the chance to come up here and I’m excited for the challenge ahead.

“I’ve played a lot of games in the Championship and we’ve got a decent squad here so hopefully I can add something to that.”

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and if I can bring a bit of experience then hopefully I can make a difference.

The Preston fans currently in the Transfer Tavern are clearly delighted with the news that they have signed a player of McCarthy’s stature, and being over zealous have spilt beer all over the floor.
