Crystal Palace are set to target West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, reports suggest.
The Daily Mail have suggested that the Eagles want to go after the 19-year-old in the January transfer window.
The England U20 international can play anywhere along the backline but has been playing in either full-back position for West Brom this season.
Given that Roy Hodgson has only one established left-back in the squad (according to Transfermarkt), Nathan Ferguson could fit the bill perfectly at Selhurst Park.
Thankfully for Palace, both Patrick van Aanholt and Joel Ward have managed to stay injury-free this season, however, if an injury were to arise, it could cause players to play slightly out of position. With the insurance of Nathan Ferguson, the club could have a youngster who is comfortable on either side of the field, filling in if an injury comes about or if either needs a rest.
Crystal Palace could be onto a winner here if they invest in the youngster. With Joel Ward and Patrick van Aanholt extremely comfortable in their positions at the moment – due to a lack of competition – they will be playing with the added pressure of keeping their first-team place.
It is also no secret that Palace have a really old squad. According to Transfermarkt, they have the second oldest squad in the division, with the average age being 28.8. In Palace’s last match against West Ham, the youngest starters in their squad was Jeff Schlupp and Wilfried Zaha, who will both turn 27 in 2019. Ferguson would add some much-needed fresh legs into that Palace squad, as well as give Hodgson another option in two positions.
Will this be Wilfried Zaha's final season at Crystal Palace?
