Crystal Palace are reportedly preparing an offer for AC Milan striker Fabio Borini.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), the Serie A giants have transfer listed the former Sunderland man and that has alerted the south London club, who are now ready to make a proposal.
Aston Villa are also said to be interested in Borini, though the same report states that Crystal Palace have the upper hand.
Should a deal take place, it could cost the Eagles up to €15m (£13.4m).
Crystal Palace surely need to sign a goalscorer before the start of the new season. Christian Benteke only scored one Premier League goal last term, while Michy Batshuayi has returned to Chelsea following his loan spell at Selhurst Park.
Considering that, the Premier League outfit are playing a dangerous game by targeting Borini this summer. Over the last few seasons, the 28-year-old has been anything but a goalscorer.
As per WhoScored, he scored just twice in Serie A last term and the one before that. And in his final season in England, he did not fare any better in front of goal either.
For Sunderland in the Premier League, Borini once again found the back of the net on just two occasions, meaning he has scored a measly six league goals in the last three campaigns combined.
To put that into perspective, Batshuayi managed to register five times in English football’s top flight during his short stint at Selhurst Park.
Roy Hodgson needs a new No.9 but not in the shape of Fabio Borini.
