Crystal Palace edging closer to sealing deal for ex-Premier League midfielder

Crystal Palace fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been surprised to hear of their club’s movements in the window this morning, as Michy Batshuayi looks set to snub Tottenham and West Ham in a move to Selhurst Park.

And the Guardian has reported this morning that the Eagles hierarchy has triggered the release clause of Newcastle United winger, Andros Townsend, whilst agreeing personal terms with the player.

The release clause has been disclosed to be in the region of £10.5 million, with the exit coming as no shock with rumours of Townsend’s eagerness to leave widely documented since the Toon were reduced to second tier status.

There were some reports that Rafa Benitez’s decision to stay with the club may swing the 24-year-old’s decision, but it seems the winger will be playing his football in London next term.

This would be the first senior member of the side to leave this window for the Tynesiders.

The landlord over by the bar here in the Tavern thinks this would be an excellent move for the wide midfielder, and feels he would excel under the tutelage of Alan Pardew!

Palace fans…. Excited about this news? Is Townsend a player you need? Let us know below!
