Many Crystal Palace fans have been venting on Twitter following an official club post commiserating former Eagles player Gareth Southgate after his England side lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties.

Spending six-and-a-half years in south London, the 50-year-old went on to rack up more than 180 ppearances for Crystal Palace, registering 22 goals [Soccerbase].

Now in the heady heights of being England manager, he successfully lead the Three Lions to their first major international tournament final since 1966, although could not see the job through against the Italians at Wembley.

Facing criticism from fans up and down the country, his choice of penalty takers in the final has been called into question, to say the least.

After Crystal Palace posted a message of support on social media reading "You did the nation proud", many Eagles supporters took to Twitter to voice their disagreement with that sentiment.
