Crystal Palace desperately need to sign a new centre-forward this month, though the addition of another midfielder could also go a long way for the south London club.
Last summer, manager Roy Hodgson had been keen on bringing Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek back to Selhurst Park (via the Guardian) following a successful loan spell during the previous campaign where the England international was able to showcase his talent.
Loftus-Cheek, who turned 23 today, brought so much to the Eagles even when played out of position. When he was fit enough to be included in Hodgson’s starting XI, he proved to be a powerful presence on the pitch with his bulldozing runs through midfield.
Technically, the Chelsea youth product was also very good, often controlling the ball to perfection and executing brilliant passes.
Loftus-Cheek has since gone on to show all of that at Stamford Bridge this season following a slow start under Maurizio Sarri, though injury has once again hampered his playing time.
You can have a look at what Crystal Palace supporters have had to say about the Chelsea midfielder on his 23rd birthday below…
