Crystal Palace: Fans react to Benteke extension rumours

Many Palace fans have weighed in with their opinions on the rumours that Crystal Palace are looking to extend Christian Benteke’s contract.
The Daily Mail says that the 28-year-old forward is in talks with Crystal Palace about extending his deal, which runs out at the end of this season, therefore allowing him to leave for a free.
The report also states that James Tomkins, 30, is set for a new deal at Selhurst Park. His contract is currently set to expire in 2021.
Benteke has found it difficult at Crystal Palace in recent years. The attacker had a fantastic start to his Palace career, scoring 17 goals in 40 games, however bad form coupled with injuries mean his career has taken a quick fall from grace.
In the last two seasons, Benteke has only managed scoring four times in 47 Premier League games for Palace, meaning there has been a big problem for goals in the centre-forward position.
The report claims that Palace are willing to part with the attacker, however, they don’t want him leaving on a free.
Many Palace fans have weighed in with their opinions on Benteke’s future, and it appears many are at the end of their tether. The majority of the responses below are negative, suggesting that Palace would be stupid to sign the player up to a new contract.
Alternatively, there are a few who still have faith in Benteke, and believe that his strengths aren’t currently being played to.
Here are some of the responses below…
Benteke will come good when he finally gets the right service.

It’s Roy’s fault, you don’t buy a people carrier and enter it into a rally!
It’s the tactics that are wrong for the players we have. Batshuayi scored goals in this formation, Benteke never will.— James Macey (@JMac00027) August 22, 2019
I would guess it’s about protecting the transfer value otherwise he leaves on a free next summer. He still has a value.

Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications! There is no way Palace will offer Benteke a new deal, even if he starts scoring this season which I still very much doubt. The wages don’t match up to the risk, age & ability that he offers. Even a pay cut wouldn’t appease me, want him out
