Crystal Palace: Fans react to drubbing of Bristol City - Crystal Palace

Lots of Palace fans have reacted on Twitter to their 5-0 demolition job of Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

In Bristol City’s final preparation for their league opener versus Leeds on Sunday they were taken apart by Crystal Palace at Ashton Gate, which saw Palace score five past Daniel Bentley without their star player Wilfried Zaha.

Max Meyer starred for Palace in a game which saw five players in red and blue get on the scoresheet. Andros Townsend and Jeffrey Schlupp both scored to give Palace a 2-0 lead heading into the break before Christian Benteke, Max Meyer and Connor Wickham all scored to put the game beyond doubt.

Wilfried Zaha was missing from the squad not for transfer reasons but due to him still being on holiday after the Africa Cup of Nations. The Ivorian forward has been subjected to many transfer rumours this window, with Everton now looking the most likely club he will depart to after they made a £55m offer (Sky Sports), which also coincides with Arsenal closing in on Nicolas Pepe (BBC), essentially ruling themselves out of the Zaha race.

This was a much-needed improvement for Crystal Palace, who haven’t had the best of pre-seasons. A string of poor performances has accompanied the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the consistent rumours of Zaha leaving the club have made it a pretty bleak window for Palace fans.

Thankfully this win has pumped a bit of needed optimism into Palace fans, who only have one more friendly versus Hertha Berlin before they begin their campaign at home to Everton.

There’s been a pretty positive response from Palace fans, though many have underlined the fact that Palace need to dip their toes into the market to reinvest in the squad after they lost a number of key players from last season, most notably Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Michy Batshuayi.
