Crystal Palace: Fans react to player battle within training - Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace fans have responded on Twitter to a video of a bit of healthy rivalry between midfielder James McArthur and goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Football Writers' Association: Opening the Door to BAME Journalists

In a video posted to the club’s website you can see the two having a little bicker during a training drill where McArthur is having a few shots at the Spanish goalkeeper.

Guaita can be seen taunting McArthur in the video after he has a shot saved by Hennessey by saying, “Macca, not strong enough my friend”. To which McArthur replies by saying, “strong enough for you mate, don’t worry about that”.

The video continues with the two jibing each other a bit more as McArthur takes more shots versus the goalkeepers.

Finally, the video is finished by McArthur preparing for his last shot vs Hennessey, before he pulls out in the last second to call Vicente Guaita in goal.

James McArthur then gets laid off by the goalkeeping coach before pulling off an audacious chip sending Guaita the other way. McArthur can then be seen running up to celebrate right in front of the ‘keeper’s face to echoes of laughter from the rest of the players and staff.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita joined the club on a free last summer from Getafe and played 20 games in the league for Palace last year and finished as the club’s number one after wrestling the jersey off of Wayne Hennessey. Fan favourite James McArthur has now been at the club since 2014 and has notched up an impressive 160 league games for the club, scoring 17 times.

Palace fans also saw the funny side on Twitter, with many commenting on their love for the two players and how they enjoy seeing the players being so competitive during pre-season.
