Crystal Palace are going to need to make a number of improvements in the upcoming transfer window if they are to progress further in the Premier League.
The goalkeeping position has been one full of doubt for a while at Selhurst Park, however, it appears Roy Hodgson could be plotting a swoop for a number one who is hugely experienced.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Aksam, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera this summer.
The goalkeeper could be made available for a transfer by the Istanbul giants because of their financial concerns and the Eagles are believed to be monitoring the situation.
However, it would appear they have some company in the race for the 106 capped Uruguay international, as Bournemouth are also keen on the South American shot-stopper.
Both Wayne Hennessey and Vicente Guaita have been used in goal this season, however, the duo have both failed to convince Hodgson that they are the club’s number one as both have had questionable performances.
Muslera, on the other hand, could be exactly what the Selhurst Park outfit need to reduce the number of times they have needed to pick the ball out of the back of the net.
He is hugely experienced and has played in some of football’s top competitions at both club and national level, having played in the Champions League with Galatasaray and in the World Cup with Uruguay, although he did make a high profile gaffe in the quarter-final stages of the tournament last summer.
The 32-year-old is excellent when it comes to making decisions when in one-on-one situations, whilst his shot-stopping and reflex saves are a very strong part of his game. He can be a commanding presence at corner kicks because of his height as he stands at 6’2″ tall (190cm) and is more than happy to come and pluck crosses out of the air.
It will be interesting to see how much Galatasaray will be prepared to offload him for though, as he has been a key member of their side and one they will not want to lose to cheaply.
