The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see a new striker at the club as soon as possible. There is a lack of goal scoring threat up top for Palace at the moment as their only senior striker Christian Benteke is failing to find the net regularly.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Crystal Palace are now considering a £7m bid for Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott to solve their goal scoring problems. Marriott has been in prolific form for League One Peterborough this season and Posh face a battle to keep their star man as a number of teams lurk.
The 23-year-old only moved to the ABAX Stadium in the summer but he has fired 24 goals for Peterborough this season, including two against Aston Villa in the FA Cup Third Round.
As well as Crystal Palace, Marriott has also been watched by their Premier League rivals West Ham United. A host of Championship clubs, such as Aston Villa, Leeds United, Millwall, Hull City and Queens Park Rangers – have also shown plenty of interest in the forward as well.
The Eagles are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by bidding £7m for the former Luton Town star this month.
Crystal Palace previously prised Dwight Gayle away from Peterborough United and this would be a similar deal. But is Marriott the man to immediately solve Palace’s goal scoring woes. It is a big step up from League One to the Premier League and with a relegation battle possibly on the horizon, surely Roy Hodgson should favour someone who is more likely to come in and fire goals straight away rather than a risky gamble.
