Crystal Palace keen on Mo Diame

Crystal Palace fans will still be reeling from their derby defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend as they still remain within the clutches of the relegation zone. With just eight games of the campaign to go, Roy Hodgson’s side will not be able to afford to drop too many points if they are to ensure they remain in the top-flight.

And, it looks as though the club is preparing to line up a move for an experienced midfielder, should they be able to remain in the division.

What’s the News?

According to a report by The Daily Star, Crystal Palace are understood to be interested in Mo Diame.

The Newcastle United midfielder could be available on a free transfer this summer, which has seen the likes of Brighton, Besiktas and Galatasaray amongst others all keen on him.

However, it is claimed that if the Senegal international midfielder were to start another three matches in the Premier League, his contract would be extended by a further year – despite him wanting two years.

The Verdict:

Diame could be able to offer Crystal Palace some much-needed strength and physical power in the middle of the park, something that Cheikhou Kouyate has struggled to do following his move from West Ham United last summer.

With Luka Milivojevic playing a holding role in the side at the moment, the Senegal international could either play alongside him and tighten up the defence, or be utilised in a more attacking role and help the club’s strikers by providing them with a few extra chances.

The 31-year-old has been impressive when he has been in the team at Newcastle this season, however, he did find it difficult to get back into the team following the emergence of Sean Longstaff.

With the Magpies reluctance to offer him the kind of deal he wants, Crystal Palace could look to come in and steal him.

Crystal Palace fans, do you think Diame would be a good addition to the side? Do you think he would make a difference for the team? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
