Now Roy Hodgson is eyeing defensive reinforcements to continue their ascent up the Premier League table. With Mamadou Sakho and Scott Dann both out injured for lengthy periods, Hodgson is aiming to bring in a new player to compete with James Tomkins, Martin Kelly and Jairo Riedewald at the back.

Palace failed in a bid to sign Amadou for £13m in the summer but have now lodged an audacious loan bid instead. Crystal Palace are hoping to convince Lille to let him go if they include an obligation to buy clause, meaning that the Eagles have to make his deal permanent in the summer.
The 24-year-old plays as a centre half or as a defensive midfielder and this versatility is interesting Hodgson. The former France youth international, who is also eligible to play for Cameroon, has been with Lille since his 2015 switch from Nancy.
