Crystal Palace launch optimistic move for Ligue 1 defender

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling much better about their position now, after moving up to 12th with a narrow victory over high flying Burnley. Bakary Sako netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Clarets at Selhurst Park to ease their relegation concerns for now and open up a five point gap above the drop zone.

Now Roy Hodgson is eyeing defensive reinforcements to continue their ascent up the Premier League table. With Mamadou Sakho and Scott Dann both out injured for lengthy periods, Hodgson is aiming to bring in a new player to compete with James Tomkins, Martin Kelly and Jairo Riedewald at the back.

According to a report by The Sun, Crystal Palace are eyeing a loan swoop for Lille defender Ibrahim Amadou. Palace failed in a bid to sign Amadou for £13m in the summer but have now lodged an audacious loan bid instead. Crystal Palace are hoping to convince Lille to let him go if they include an obligation to buy clause, meaning that the Eagles have to make his deal permanent in the summer.

The 24-year-old plays as a centre half or as a defensive midfielder and this versatility is interesting Hodgson. The former France youth international, who is also eligible to play for Cameroon, has been with Lille since his 2015 switch from Nancy.

The Verdict

Crystal Palace need a short term solution and a loan deal for a top performing French centre back could work in theory. But Hodgson has also been looking at targets who know the Premier League. When Sakho and Dann return, would Amadou get a game at Palace?
