Crystal Palace lead race for experienced defender; Player wants PL move

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for Sam Allardyce to bring in a few players over the next few weeks…

It has been a tough few months for the Eagles in the Transfer Tavern. Last season was, for the most part, a pretty successful one – with Alan Pardew building a pretty impressive side – but this year, everything has gone down hill.

A poor start to the season led to Pardew’s eventual dismissal, with ex-England boss Sam Allardyce left to pick up the pieces at Selhurst Park.

Big Sam, as he is affectionately known, surely knew the job that he was faced with at the helm of the Eagles – and now it would appear as though he is actively looking for solutions as he seeks to improve his side.

According to the Sun, veteran French defender Patrice Evra is reportedly in the sights of Allardyce – with the Palace boss reportedly looking to improve his defensive options.

The Sun also notes that Palace are, at present, apparently the frontrunners for the deal – leading the likes of Man Utd and Valencia in the race to sign the experienced left-back.

Evra, who will be most well known in the Tavern for his exploits with Man Utd, is an experienced full-back that would undoubtedly add a bit of steel to Pardew’s back line. Offensively sound but defensively exquisite – Evra has been one of Europe’s best in his role for much of his career, and his signing would certainly be considered a coup should Palace land him.

The Crystal Palace fans in the Tavern are loving the sound of this, and whilst they are concerned that he has hardly played in Serie A – they think his experience could be vital around the dressing room as Allardyce looks to solve Palace’s problems.
