Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern have reason for optimism after securing their Premier League status for another season with the transfer window now officially open.
After the disaster that was Frank de Boer was replaced by Roy Hodgson, the Eagles slowly climbed the table with the performances of Wilfried Zaha helping them avoid the drop. The former England manager deserves plenty of credit for his work with Palace rooted to the bottom of the table when he took over.
Hodgson will be disappointed at the latest developments coming out of Selhurst Park with Yohan Cabaye refusing to commit his future to the club with his contract almost at an end. Marseille are interested in bringing the 32-year-old back to France according to reports. If he does decide to leave, Palace must make replacing him a priority this summer.
One man they should target is Everton outcast – Davy Klaassen. The former Ajax captain joined the Toffees last summer for £25m but quickly fell down the pecking order at Goodison Park. His poor performances has restricted him to just seven Premier League appearances.
Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, Palace should look to end his nightmare spell on Merseyside. Still only 25, Klaassen has plenty of time to make a name for himself in England and is an ideal replacement for Cabaye. With a great range of passing, Klaassen will be able to unlock defences and allow Zaha to flourish.
Sam Allardyce’s system did not help the Dutchman’s cause, a change of scenery could be just what he needs to turn his career around.
