Crystal Palace: Promising James Justin the solution to long-term left-back headaches

After Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s emergence last season, Crystal Palace will surely put more emphasis into giving rise to promising youngsters going forward.

Indeed, the sensational right-back outperformed their whole defence, which quite honestly was very poor in standing up to opposition.

Unlike his teammate, Patrick van Aanholt wasn’t particularly strong defensively and erratic with his attacking contribution. The left back’s inconsistency is something Roy Hodgson must want to fix, but he needs better cover to keep him on his toes. As a result, according to reports (via Football Insider), the Eagles have turned their attention towards Luton Town’s breakout star James Justin.

Capable of playing both sides of the defence, the 21-year-old could have a natural role on the left of their back-four, mirroring the aforementioned Wan-Bissaka and seriously upgrading their rearguard. Every one of you who have had sit at Selhurst Park watching some mind-numbingly dull football will want that, surely.

Indeed, the 21-year-old full-back was crucial to their promotion campaign, putting in some amazing performances from either left or right-back. Indeed, he scored 3 goals and assisted 8 in League One, proving an absolute menace marauding down the flanks. Moreover, he also helped them keep 20 clean-sheets, being an industrial figure in neutralizing the opposition’s attacking threat.

Having also made the PFA League One team of the season, Justin’s list of admirers has increased ten-fold. The youngster is being courted by numerous Premier League and Championship clubs fighting for him. Rivals Leicester City and Southampton are chasing him, but Palace need him most to solve their left-back headaches.

Justin is the perfect successor to Van Aanholt (linked with Manchester United) with his attacking intent mirroring the Palace left-back’s. The 19-year-old can solidify the Eagles’ defence in the long-term to be the persistent attacking full-back they require to complement Wan-Bissaka. Heck, he could even replace him, such is his versatility.

A gem, Justin can liven up Palace’s defence and secure a brighter future.
