Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson discusses Wilfried Zaha injury

Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson discusses Wilfried Zaha injury -Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have a huge game against their M23 derby rivals Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday but the Eagles could be dealt a blow following a possible injury to Wilfried Zaha.

Roy Hodgson had his press conference on Friday and he spoke about the squad, but brought up a slight issue with the winger which has put him in doubt for the game.

Hodgson’s update on Wilfried Zaha

The winger was away with Ivory Coast on the recent international break, playing in their first game against Belgium. However, he was missing from the squad for the match against Japan and this prompted the media to ask a question about his availability for tomorrow.

Hodgson implied that Zaha picked up an injury on international duty, saying: “Not sure yet, but I hope so. To be fair, it was a slip which occurred in the game, which meant that he felt his groin muscle, he’s got a strain there.”

A subsequent scan revealed that there was no sign of any sort of grade tear, so it’s really a question of whether he feels that he has recovered sufficiently in time for tomorrow.

How worrying is Zaha’s possible absence for Palace

The Ivorian is the talisman for the Eagles, as highlighted by him being given the captaincy this season.

He also loves playing against Brighton, as he has lined up against them 12 times and scored six goals as well as claiming two assists, per Transfermarkt. Also, the £45m-valued ace has started the season strongly, with three goals in his four Premier League appearances.

Hodgson has always been full of praise for the player, who he called “mature” in the wake of previous speculation linking him with an exit from Selhurst Park (per The Independent).

The doubts over Zaha’s fitness are a worry for Palace, with Hodgson and Eagles fans surely hoping that he can feature in tomorrow’s derby.
