Things could be about to get really busy for Crystal Palace in the transfer market as Roy Hodgson looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The same outlet reports that Liverpool value Clyne at around £12m and his Belgian team-mate at £10m and that Crystal Palace are hoping to take advantage of the two players’ fringe status at Anfield.
In need of a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka (who Sky Sports reported has passed his medical at Manchester United), Clyne looks like a very promising option for the Eagles. Defensively, he is a pretty solid full-back and, having made 122 appearances for the club during his first stint there after coming through the academy in South London, clearly knows the club well.
As for Mignolet, with Football Insider reporting that Hodgson is looking for an experienced and proven Premier League goalkeeper, the 31-year-old fits that criteria.
Amassing 245 Premier League appearances and keeping 80 clean sheets during spells at both Liverpool and Sunderland, Mignolet could be just what the Eagles boss is seeking in his attempts to improve his options in that goalkeeper position. Indeed, with an almost 300-game top-flight career, it’s hard to argue against his experience at such a level.
With two players involved, it could prove to be a complicated deal. But if Crystal Palace manage to get it over the line, you would have to say it is smart business considering the context of things.
