Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann has fronted up and spoke at length about the club’s loss to Sheffield United yesterday.
The Eagles lost out thanks to a goal from John Lundstram for newly promoted United, and they never really threatened Dean Henderson in the Blades goal, something Palace defender Dann was keen to pick up on.
“It’s hard to put one finger [on what went wrong]. It was a disappointing display. We never really looked like scoring, that was the biggest part of the defeat, I think.” Dann told the club’s official website.
“We conceded after two minutes and found it hard to get back into the game. We just didn’t create enough as a team and get anywhere near enough chances on their goal.”
And the experienced Palace man was making no excuses, adding:
“There’s no excuses for the way the game panned out today, they never had many chances either. But we probably didn’t deserve to win the game; we knew the atmosphere was going to be lively today but we are in the Premier League and it’s not just here that happens; we were ready for it and we needed to be ready for it.”
Palace are hoping for a much better season this time around after struggling near the bottom of the table last season, but are without a goal and have only a single point after two Premier League games this term.
Dann is completely right in what he is saying here and it’s nice to see a player fronting up and being honest.
Wilfried Zaha and Max Meyer struggled to make any sort of impact on the game in attacking areas, both earning a lacklustre 6.3 when it came to WhoScored‘s match ratings. Overall, it was a bad day in the office for Roy Hodgson’s side.
