There is no doubt that Scott Dann has been a good servant for Crystal Palace, but his time at Selhurst Park looks to be coming to an end.

The English defender, now 32 years of age, will be a free agent next summer, while he is currently attracting interest from another Premier League club.

That is according to The Sun (via TEAMtalk), who report that Rafael Benitez is keen on bringing him to Newcastle United ahead of next season.

At 32, Dann may very well relish a new challenge and the chance to work under a coach like Benitez as his Crystal Palace contract runs down. But as far as minutes on the pitch go, is a move to St. James' Park really in his best interest? Probably not.

It is difficult to see how the former Birmingham City man gets into this Newcastle side ahead of the likes of Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles, for example.

Schar has been an absolute beast at the back for the Magpies since arriving from Deportivo La Coruna last summer; he is an undisputed starter. And Lascelles, the club captain, looks invincible on his day.

What could work in Dann's favour is the fact that Benitez often used a back five in the campaign that has just gone. But with the Spaniard also having Federico Fernandez to call upon, there are still no guarantees.

Ultimately, Dann would be better off seeing out his Crystal Palace contract or seeking a move to another outfit.
