The narrative that Crystal Palace need to find a new striker in the upcoming transfer window is one that is hardly going to go away in the near future until one with pedigree arrives in south London.
The Eagles have been desperate for a new forward for as long as a fan can remember and it seems Roy Hodgson could be making plans to try and finally find someone who could end their nightmares in front of goal and bring in someone suitable to spearhead the attack once and for all.
What’s the News?
According to a report on The Mirror’s live transfer feed (2/5/18, 05:39am), Crystal Palace are thought to be interested in Juan Munoz.
It is claimed the Premier League side will send scouts to watch the forward in action for Alcorcon and evaluate whether he is the man to finally break the curse that seems to hang above the strikers at Selhurst Park.
If he is what they deem the right man for the job, it is understood he could be available for a fee of around the £2million-mark.
Munoz could be considered somewhat a surprise package for Crystal Palace to sign, however, he could become an inspired signing for the Eagles if he is able to achieve the same kind of things he has at Alcorcon.
Although he is currently playing in the Segunda Division (Spain’s second tier), having come through the ranks at Sevilla, the 23-year-old has managed to bag himself nine goals in his 26 appearances so far, which shows that he has an ability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
Which is a lot more than the likes of Christian Benteke and Alexander Sorloth can say (although he has since found his shooting boots whilst on loan at Gent).
Munoz is incredibly versatile, as he can play anywhere across the front line, which could make the £2m price fairly attractive. £2m is not a lot of money in today’s transfer market and it could prove to be a rather low-risk acquisition for the Eagles.
However, it might just be worth Hodgson’s side keeping an eye on him in Alcorcon’s remaining games as they come up against some of the Segunda Division’s best sides who are fighting for promotion to La Liga, as those matches might tell Crystal Palace a lot about the man they are supposedly interested in.
Crystal Palace fans, what do you make of the Munoz links? Would you risk £2m on him? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
