The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to add a few fresh faces to their squad in January to climb up the league table.
Their form has picked up recently following a catastrophic start to the season, and now the future is looking brighter for the Eagles under Roy Hodgson. The first priority in the window will be to resist all bids for Wilfried Zaha.
If they manage to do that, the next step is to bring in someone who can help share the burden of creativity with the Ivory Coast international. Andros Townsend and Yohan Cabaye are both competent players at this level but another new face is needed to add that extra bit of special skill which has been lacking since Yannick Bolasie departed.
Kevin Mirallas – who is rated at £9 million by Transfer Markt – is one possible target that Palace could consider. The Belgian international is on the fringes at Everton and could seek an exit from Goodison Park in the January transfer window to find first-team football elsewhere and to increase his chances of being selected in Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad.
Mirallas is, admittedly, hit and miss, but on his day, he can provide that special spark which can turn a game around. He has pace, maverick skill and flair in abundance – but he needs a fresh start away from Everton to get his career back on track.
Crystal Palace would be an ideal destination for the 30-year-old, as he would be handed plenty of opportunities to star in their attacking line-up. And meanwhile, Roy Hodgson would benefit from having a talented player with a point to prove in his side.
This is important, as Palace can often lack creativity when Zaha isn’t playing or isn’t performing, and Mirallas has proven his quality over the years at Goodison Park. He bagged 4 goals and earned 6 assists last season, and that sort of quality could aid the Eagles.
Mirallas could be available on the cheap or a loan deal might also be feasible as it suits all parties.
