The future of Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle remains up in the air following revelations that the player may not be offered a new deal at Selhurst Park, which has got Eagles punters at the bar sweating.
We just overheard a conversation between a group of men over by the pool table in the Transfer Tavern, that included Croydon Advertiser reporter Mark Ritson, claiming that manager Alan Pardew has no plans to offer the front man a new contract at Selhurst Park.
Speculation has been rife that Gayle’s Crystal Palace career is over despite staying at the club following a failed move to Bristol City during the summer; which punters in the bar were delighted to see fall through, given his recent form.
Gayle has recently been a regular during the last few weeks and has found his knack in front of goal, scoring four times in five matches- including a hat-trick against Charlton Athletic in the Capital One Cup.
According to Ritson, when he asked the Palace manager if Gayle would be getting a new deal, Pardew has said:
“It’s not something I am aware of. I was very impressed with him last Sunday. If he had scored two goals, he would have been man of the match.”
“He was so unlucky with a couple of chances. That’s what he gives us and he has worked his way into the team. He will play on Saturday and hopefully he will score.”
It will be a bitter pill to swallow for Gayle who will feel that he has done enough over the last few game to impress his new manager, but it appears his time in South London could be coming to an end this summer.
