Crystal Palace suffer blow in pursuit of 23-year-old defender

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see a few players come through the doors at Selhurst Park in the coming weeks…

The Eagles have struggled in the Premier League this season, and with Alan Pardew now out of the door – it is up to Sam Allardyce to turn their season around.

The January transfer window has been as important as ever for Palace this year, with Allardyce’s first team needing some serious investment – and a host of top players have already been linked with a move to Selhurst Park.

Unfortunately for the Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern, though, it would appear as though one of the more high-profile names touted with a move across London is unlikely to make the move.

According to the Evening Standard, Ben Davies looks set to stay at Tottenham this month, with a long-term injury to Jan Vertonghen reducing the defensive depth available to Mauricio Pochettino.

The Sun had earlier reported that Allardyce was eyeing a £10 million move for the defender – though it would appear as though that will no longer be coming to fruition.

This isn’t the only blow that the Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern have suffered today, with reports also suggesting that a move for Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is also off.

Crystal Palace’s need for defensive improvement is clear, with 40 goals conceded already this season. Our landlord thinks that Allardyce simply has to look elsewhere, as his side needs a couple of defenders to ensure Premier League survival this year.
