Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are praying the club can keep hold of Wilfried Zaha now the transfer window is officially open.
The Eagles looked destined for relegation earlier in the season after Frank De Boer left the club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League. Former England boss Roy Hodgson steered the club to safety and could thank Wilfried Zaha for his excellent performances. The Ivorian has been coveted by Tottenham as a result of his wonderful form since leaving Manchester United after a fairly nightmarish spell at Old Trafford.
Still, regardless of whether Zaha leaves the club, Palace need to bolster their forward line. Christian Benteke failed to find the back of the net consistently and could be allowed to depart this summer, so strikers are somewhat light on the ground. With that in mind, Hodgson should look to West Ham and attempt to lure Michail Antonio to Selhurst Park.
Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the Englishman has been told by Manuel Pellegrini that he is not in their long-term plans and the club are open to offers according to the Mirror. West Ham’s loss could be Crystal Palace’s gain.
Antonio is an extremely versatile player that would make him an extremely useful option for Hodgson. He can play at right wing, right midfield and even right back. The former Nottingham Forest man has also been used as a central striker. He struggled with injuries last season, restricting him to just 16 Premier League starts, though was involved in the England set-up not all too long ago.
While the 28-year-old isn’t the most technically gifted footballer, he is a tremendous athlete. With immense strength and blistering pace, Antonio is also a threat in the air; 13 of his 20 Premier League goals have come from headers.
Available at a great price, this one is a no-brainer for the Eagles.
