Despite some pretty positive results and performances this season, Crystal Palace find themselves floating three points above the relegation zone, with slight improvements needed.
Of course, one big worry for Palace at this moment in time is preserving their Premier League status as they’ve struggled to ensure consistency at times this season.
Palace will be desperate to steer clear of trouble, with an all-important game against Leicester City coming up later on today.
So, with Roy Hodgson and a number of other clubs all battling to avoid the drop, here are two possible answers to Crystal Palace’s Premier League survival…
Beat the ‘smaller’ sides
Hodgson needs to make sure that he gets the best out of his side in games against other teams battling to stay afloat.
They’ve still got Burnley, Brighton, Huddersfield, and Cardiff City to play, which are all very winnable games.
Palace have a very decent record against those sides as well, only losing out to Brighton in reverse fixture.
They’ve shown they can do it against those higher in the table than them, and you’re always guaranteed an entertaining contest, it’s just about converting that into tangible results now.
Achievable with their quality.
Defence needs improving
If you look at Palace’s recent form, you’ll find they don’t exactly struggle for goals like their companions at the bottom of the table. In fact, they’ve only failed to score in two of their previous 12 games in all competitions.
Indeed, it’s their defence that’s a real cause for concern.
A lack of consistency in goal has been a real issue with three different goalkeepers all starting at some point this season, and this has barely been helped by a number of problems in defence at times.
Hodgson will need to address the serious lapses in concentration if he wants to avoid disappointment.
