Crystal Palace may have virtually guaranteed their place in the Premier League for another season, however, they can ill-afford any poor performances and should look to finish as high up the table as they can. A higher position will potentially allow Roy Hodgson to have more money available for some much-needed reinforcements in the summer.
And, it appears he already has one player he already knows rather well on his radar that he wishes to bring to Selhurst Park on a permanent deal.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Sun, Crystal Palace want to turn Swansea City’s Jordan Ayew’s loan deal into a permanent switch.
It is claimed that Hodgson sees the experienced Ghana international as a decent squad player and the Eagles are prepared to pay the Championship outfit £4million to make the deal happen.
On the face of things, this deal does come off as a little bit strange. Ayew has hardly been effective at Crystal Palace this season in his 18 Premier League appearances, having scored just one goal in those fixtures.
The Ghanaian may have brought some optimism back to the Selhurst Park outfit in terms of having a striker that can regularly find the back of the net, however, that has since fallen to the same levels of disappointment they have had to deal with for a while.
Although having options for a number of positions is always a positive thing to have, questions would have to be asked if whether spending £4m on Ayew is actually worth the Eagles doing.
Surely, they could put that money towards someone else who could have the desired effect of scoring goals on a consistent basis next season. Maybe, they could have used the money on a player in a different area of the field and strengthen their first-team up.
Crystal Palace might just be best avoiding the £4m on Ayew as he appears to be a Championship player at best and is lacking the quality needed to make it in England’s top-flight.
Crystal Palace fans, what do you make of the claims the club are ready to splash out £4m on Ayew? Do you think they should? Or should they spend it on someone else? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
