Crystal Palace fans can breathe easy after they sealed their safety in the Premier League despite sitting bottom of the table for weeks.
The Eagles looked destined for relegation under Frank De Boer before Roy Hodgson took the reigns. The former Liverpool boss successfully turned the club around and secured Premier League status for another year. Now, they can start looking to the future.
Hodgson will be pleased with the performances of Wilfried Zaha in recent weeks but will be concerned over the form of Christian Benteke. The forward has failed to impress since moving from Liverpool for massive money two years ago. He has managed just three goals in 30 Premier League appearances this year.
Goals are a must if Palace are to improve next season and Benteke has proved he is unable to provide them. The Eagles should move him on and instead try to sign Lyon forward – Mariano Diaz. The forward has been in electric form since signing from Real Madrid, bagging 21 goals in all competitions. His market value has increased to £19.8m as a result, according to Transfermarkt.
A pacey forward with an eye for goal, Diaz would be the perfect forward to lift Palace up the table. Despite just one season in Ligue 1, it would be a risk worth taking for Hodgson’s side. If they can keep hold of Zaha, they would have a deadly partnership next year.
