Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern will be celebrating their emphatic 5-0 victory against Leicester City last weekend, a result which effectively secured their Premier League safety.
The Eagles were one of the favourites to go down during the majority of the season after their horrendous start – however, following the arrival of Roy Hodgson, the South London outfit have managed to climb up the table at a steady pace and will now look to try and finish inside the top ten.
The locals will be looking to hold on to the likes of Wilfried Zaha, who has been influential in their exploits – however, many in the bar remain unconvinced on the future of striker Christian Benteke. The Belgium international has struggled for Palace and scored just his third goal of the campaign against the Foxes, and has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.
However, the striker is adamant that he wants to remain at Selhurst Park and, according to The Daily Mail, is set to have talks about his future at the end of the season with chairman Steve Parish regarding his options.
He said: ‘I’m under contract until 2020, so I want to stay here. I’m going to speak to the chairman (Steve Parish) and the club about what they want to do with me.
‘They saw the best of me last season, and I wanted to do even better this season, but it didn’t work like that and I will go again next season.’
And these comments are sure to intrigue our resident Eagles supporters, who have seen Benteke seriously struggle to replicate last season’s form this time round, and as such may not be overly fussed were the £19.8 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) to leave this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Palace fans in the Tavern have grown largely frustrated with the club-record signing, and will undoubtedly want to see more from him should he stay at Selhurst Park beyond the summer.
