Allardyce weighs up surprise Crystal Palace deal as reign takes shape

Though the Crystal Palace fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern don’t really think they’ll genuinely go down this season, there’s little doubt it’s been a nightmare campaign at Selhurst Park.

After a summer that promised oh so much, the dreadful form that plagued all of 2016 continued to dog Alan Pardew in south London refused to go away until the Eagles’ made the decision to give ‘Pardiola’ his marching orders.

The fact new boss Sam Allardyce hasn’t quite had the instant impact many of our Palace-mad locals expected him to hasn’t gone down well in the bar, so reports from the Daily Mirror have caused further concern.

According to their recent report, Big Sam is considering a shock sale of club-record signing Christian Benteke just five months after the big Belgian arrived from Liverpool for upwards of £30m.

While the former England coach is believed to be reluctant right now, the 26-year-old’s departure could help raise funds at Palace as he attempts to improve his squad.

A number of Chinese sides are thought to be interested in the ex-Aston Villa marksman and could reportedly offer him lucrative wages to swap Croydon for the Far East.

He’s notched eight goals in red and blue so far and many of the Palace fans propping up the bar would loathe to see him leave so early on in his career with the club.
