Crystal Palace remain on the verge of the Premier League relegation zone following a 3-2 defeat to West Ham last weekend.
Palace took an early lead through James McArthur, but the Hammers quickly hit back with second-half goals from Robert Snodgrass, Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson. Jeffrey Schlupp was able to claw one back late on, however, the Eagles were unable to find an equaliser. The result leaves Roy Hodgson’s side just two points above the bottom three after collecting just one point from their last six away games.
The game marked the tenth consecutive league match without a goal for Wilfried Zaha. The Ivory Coast international looked void of confidence, passing up multiple opportunities to shoot, as well as losing possession countless times. It’s clear that Palace can’t solely rely on the ex-Manchester United winger for goals which must be addressed during the January transfer window.
One man who should be on Hodgson’s list of targets is Blackburn Rovers hotshot – Bradley Dack. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old was a crucial player during Rovers’ successful bid to return to the Championship last year, netting 18 league goals on his way to being named League One Player of the Year. Dack’s excellent form has continued in the higher division, scoring nine goals in the Championship as well as registering three assists for his team-mates.
The playmaker would add creativity, ingenuity and energy in the Palace midfield to help get their forwards firing again. His link-up play could help bring the best out of Zaha once again, and his eye for goal would lower the goal scoring burden on the Ivorian’s shoulders. With fantastic dribbling ability and expert vision, Dack has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League.
Signing the Englishman should be made a priority in the New Year.
