Crystal Palace fans at the Transfer Tavern will be delighted after The Eagles have announced that starlet Aaron Wan-Bissaka has signed a contract extension with the club today.
The 20-year-old was thrust into Premier League action in February against Tottenham and has kept his side for the next five fixtures as Palace have begun to climb away from the relegation zone. His recent impressive form has also led to him receiving his first call-up to the England Under 20 squad for the March fixtures and saw him win the club’s Player of the Month award.
His impressive start to life at Selhurst Park has prompted Roy Hodgson and chairman Steve Parish to convince the full-back to extend his contract until 2022. The news broke on Crystal Palace’s official website with Hodgson claiming that the club were delighted after he agreed to the new terms and they are pleased to of tied down his future at the club
Wan-Bissaka originally joined the Eagles academy aged 11 starting out as a winger before beginning his transition into a right-back last season for the Under 23 side. He broke into the first team originally in their FA Cup third round defeat to fierce rivals Brighton in January before becoming a first team regular after the Spurs game.
Speaking to the club’s website after signing his extension, the 20-year-old was over the moon to sign terms with his hometown club, thanking the management staff and the chairman. He also went onto say that this season had ‘been an incredible one for him personally .’
As you can imagine, it’s news to have gone down well amongst our resident Eagles, just days after their vital win over bitter rivals Brighton.
While the injury crisis to have blighted Roy Hodgson pretty much all season has obviously frustrated Palace fans, the fact that it led to a new deal for the youngster after the impressive start to his career has at least meant something good emerged for those in South East London.
