Many Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have discussed some of the attitudes towards Wayne Hennessey within the club’s fanbase.
Following the Welsh number 1’s fantastic performance against Hungary on Tuesday night to qualify his country for just their third international tournament, many fans still refused to give credit to the ‘keeper.
The Eagles’ official Twitter account tweeted a video of a double save that the 32-year-old was able to pull off, which still sparked a barrage of negative responses.
Palace fan account @TalkCPFC then tweeted their discontent about the stick that he was getting from fans, to which many other fans responded to.
There was a pretty mixed response from fans about the ‘toxic’ attitude towards him. Many continued to berate the Palace number 13, stating that he is ‘consistently awful’ as well as other criticisms.
On the contrary, there were a few fans who recognised that he is subject to too much abuse, with one calling it ‘pathetic’ and another saying it’s ‘horrible’.
Here are some of the replies below…
Our fan base is toxic to any goalkeeper that isn’t Spanish and any striker who isn’t Ghanaian or a Belgian on loan.

Agree! As a Welsh Palace fan it’s horrible to see.

Maybe because he’s been consistently AWFUL throughout 90% of his time here. He’s individually cost us more points than any other palace player in my lifetime. It’s not exactly going to endear him to the fans.

His only problem that he was brought in to replace Jules, and some have never forgiven him, not his fault imho

For me I think he should be coming up and winning that as soon as it comes in the box. Yes he made some good saves BUT he could’ve prevented it
