Many Crystal Palace fans have shown their love for Andy Johnson after the club released a video of him scoring a header against Liverpool.
Nowadays, the Eagles have a bit of history of surprising Liverpool; they are the last side to beat them at Anfield and no one has forgotten the classic ‘Crystanbul‘ moment of 2014.
However, when Palace were facing relegation in 2005 they managed to shoot themselves out of the bottom three after Andy Johnson scored the only goal for Palace as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
Before that date (April 23), Palace hadn’t won since February 26, so it was quite a shock for them to defeat the Merseyside club less than a month before they went on to become European champions.
Unfortunately for Palace, they still ended up getting relegated that season. But Andy Johnson’s heroics are still remembered. That season, he was the top-scoring Englishman in the league and the second overall, bagging 21 times.
Many fans responded to the club’s tweet – here are some of them below…
