Crystal Palace: Fans ponder Christian Benteke position change

In his first season at Crystal Palace, Christian Benteke scored 15 goals in the Premier League and surely left fans excited for the rest of his future at the club. However, with 5 goals in the league since then, he’s done little to prove himself as a prolific striker.
Indeed, a section of the fanbase are now starting to wonder whether the Belgian striker is more of a supplier after impressive displays in his last couple of fixtures. Considering he, on average, wins 4.9 aerial duels (via WhoScored) per game and has seen his work-rate praised by Roy Hodgson in the past, one fan account asked whether or not he should be deployed as a No.10, potentially winning the ball before freeing perhaps a more mobile forward – like he did with Jordan Ayew against Brighton.
Could Benteke play as a No.10?
Yes

No

With that in mind, here’s what some of them had to say on the social media platform:
Would you like to see Benteke play as the No.10?

Keep it as it is for the season. Schlupp Sakho Andros Tosun on the bench. All of a sudden we can start looking up again

No. Just as I wouldn’t like Wilf to play in goal. 😆

One Callipo doesn’t maketh a summer.

when he picks the ball up deeper and strides forward he’s hard to stop. Obviously lacking confidence in front of goal so the playmaker role could suit (as we saw vs Brighton)

I’d prefer to see him on the bench I’m afraid. Give Cenk a decent go before we go and splash £20 million on him

I’d like ayew there with tosun up top, benteke couldn’t control it, his pass, dribble whatever was more luck than management, I’m afraid. Week after week we think he’ll come good, it’s just not going to happen, bluntly he’s a donkey number 9 these days.
