Crystal Palace: Fans react strongly post Carabao Cup exit

Plenty of Crystal Palace fans have responded strongly on Twitter after their shock exit to Colchester United in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup.

The Eagles have been brought back to reality after the high of beating Manchester United at Old Trafford as they slumped to a 0-0 draw at home to Colchester before penalties got the better of them.

Crystal Palace made 10 changes from the side which won in Manchester, with only Martin Kelly retaining his position in the starting line-up. Nevertheless, it was a team full of Premier League pedigree, with players such as Andros Townsend, Max Meyer, Christian Benteke and debutant Victor Camarasa all starting.

The game was far from a thriller, with Benteke coming the closest to scoring the only goal of the game as his shot rattled the crossbar in the first half.

The eventual hero would be goalkeeper Dean Gerken, who made the only save of the shootout which finished 5-4 to the visitors. He was able to keep out the first penalty of shootout, saving Townsend’s by jumping to his left.

Unsurprisingly, Palace fans haven’t responded particularly well to the result, with many being shocked after having such a good performance just a few days prior. One even suggested that they should sell Zaha as he deserves better than this.

Here are some of the fans’ responses…
