Crystal Palace: Fans respond to Christian Benteke’s tweet after bagging twice

Many Crystal Palace fans have responded on Twitter to a Christian Benteke tweet about how amazing it felt to score for his country.

The forward managed to bag a brace versus Cyprus as Belgium beat them 6-1, meaning that they finished their Euro qualifying group as comfortable winners, winning every single match and averaging four goals per game.

Following that final win, the 28-year-old thanked his country’s fans for all of the support and followed off by saying he’s going back to Palace for a big end to the year.

Benteke has had a torrid time in recent years. The Eagles’ record signing started so well at Selhurst Park with 17 goals in his first season, but he has added just four more since then.

According to Transfermarkt, he has now played as many games for Crystal Palace as he has for Aston Villa (101), but the goal-scoring records are completely different. He was able to score 49 at his time at Villa; however, he has only scored 21 during his spell in south London.

Many fans responded to the tweet with a wide range of opinions. Some were happy to see him score, while others just criticised him for his poor form.
