Crystal Palace issue hands-off warning for Tottenham target

Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still scratching their heads over this deal…

Reports from Sky Sports suggesting the North London outfit were keen on bringing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha across the capital emerged yesterday.

It is definitely a potential move that has baffled everyone here in the Football Transfer Tavern, particularly those from Hotspur Way.

Whilst our landlord suspected that the Eagles would be keen to do business over the winger – who for the most part has failed to live up to the hype in recent years – that is now looking like it is not the case.

According to The Sun, Palace chairman Steve Parish has issued a hands-off warning to Tottenham in the last 24 hours, confirming that the club will not sell the 23-year-old this summer.

“There is no chance Zaha will be sold in this window — 100 per cent guaranteed”, fumed Parish.

”We had a bid from Spurs, it was a £12million bid and it was a ridiculous bid —  they cannot be serious.”

Their refusal to do business with Spurs will reportedly come as a disappointment to Zaha himself, who is said to have asked the top brass at Selhurst Park for a move away.

“The manager and the player might have had a conversation but I’m chairman of the club”, Parish added.

“I decide who leaves and he’s not leaving.”

“He’ll have to get his head around that.”

Considering that the South London outfit have already sold Yannick Bolasie to Everton this summer, it barely comes as a surprise to our punters – especially considering that a replacement has not been found.

Interestingly, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed several weeks ago that he was looking to bring in three more players this summer; could Zaha have been a long-term target for the Argentine boss?

Perhaps the more important question to discuss is what exactly would the former Manchester United man offer to Spurs this season?

Well, according to this table provided by whoscored.com – a fair bit.

He has consistently floated around the 7.0 average rating mark whilst at Palace – particularly impressive considering his age. He has improved almost annually – so you would expect that to continue going forward.

He could certainly do with upping his goalscoring, but much of that can be put down to the quality of players that he plays with at Palace.

Having now spent two full years back at the club, much will be expected of him this term.

Crystal Palace fans – we want to hear from you! Do you want to see Zaha leave? Tottenham fans – do you disagree with the Spurs fans in the Tavern? Do you want to sign Zaha?
