Crystal Palace have been linked with a possible move for Filip Kostic and recent comments from former Ballon d’Or winner Lothar Matthaus have suggested that it looks likely the attacker will move on in the summer.
Matthaus, who won 150 German caps, feels that the reported Eagles target is destined for a big move this summer after some great performances in the Bundesliga. Speaking to Sky Deutschland, via HITC, he said: “I assume that he is on the list at some larger clubs and that there is a major transfer due in summer. What he’s been producing so far this season has been top notch.”
Should the club sign Kostic?
This campaign, the Serbian international has played 24 times for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, picking up four goals and eight assists, via WhoScored. He clearly has a lot of attacking confidence as he manages 2.7 shots, 2.9 key passes and 2.5 successful dribbles per game. If you compare this with the whole Palace squad, he would rank top for most shots and key passes per game, whilst only Wilfried Zaha at Selhurst Park has averaged more successful dribbles per game than him, per WhoScored.
This highlights that the Eagles should do everything they can to bring the winger to the club. He would massively boost their attacking threat, which is much needed as Palace have scored only 26 goals in the Premier League this campaign, which is the second lowest in the division, via SofaScore.
It was recently reported that Kostic was available for only £19m, according to FrankfurterRundschau in April, and for such a decent price in today’s market, the deal looks like a no-brainer for the south London side.
