The Crystal Palace fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club are set to complete their third deal of the summer.
The South London Press are reporting that the Eagles are set to sign James Tomkins from fellow Premier League side West Ham United within the next 24 hours.
Despite only signing anew five year deal at West Ham in February it appears that the 27 year old central defender is surplus to requirements this summer and has been made available for transfer by manager Slaven Bilic.
The Hammers left England for their pre season tour of America last week and there was no place on the plane for the defender as it was made clearer that his future will lie elsewhere next season.
Tomkins has come through the youth ranks at West Ham and has made over 200 appearances to date for the club to become a firm favourite, many of those fans will be sorry to see the defender move on but know that is the price certain players will have to pay if they want the club to be successful.
Should Tomkins sign he will be the third player through the door at Selhurst Park already this summer following Andros Townsend and Steve Mandana to the club.
Can Palace make the Top 6 next year?
