A lot of Crystal Palace fans are loving the club’s ‘#RedandBlueRewind’ on Twitter as they showed a video of the very dramatic Division One match against Stockport back in 2001.
Crystal Palace have had their fair share of relegation battles during their history, but none have been as last minute as when the South London outfit secured First Division safety back in 2001 via BBC Sport.
Was this Palace's greatest escape?
Palace looked like they were going to drop to Division Two, but somehow they were able to keep on battling for survival until the final game of the campaign as they faced Stockport. During the match, fans were keeping an eye on other results, and it was looking more and more like the Eagles would be getting relegated.
However, with three minutes remaining on the clock, Dougie Freedman somehow managed to secure safety for them, as he scored the only goal in the game, causing the away end to go absolutely crazy. The Eagles managed to hold on, and somehow to everyone’s delight, they had secured their status in the division.
The result meant they finished one place above the bottom three and only one point above Huddersfield Town, via Crystal Palace.
