Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful to see progress at Selhurst Park this season but they’re aware it could take time.
Following the appointment of Dougie Freedman as Sporting Director, the Eagles are preparing to venture into the market before the close of the transfer window next month and a familiar face to Freedman is being targeted.
The Guardian states Freedman is looking to reunite with Scottish international Oliver Burke and the club are eyeing a move to bring him back to British football, following his exit from Nottingham Forest last summer to join German outfit RB Leipzig.
20-year-old Burke made a bright start to life in the Bundesliga but fell off the pace in the months that followed, making only five league starts last season and being omitted from Leipzig’s squad for the opening weekend’s defeat to Schalke this term.
Palace boss Franck De Boer confirmed the club’s interest in Burke last week but he’s not the only target being eyed by the South London side, as they’re also keeping tabs on Roma goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and Barcelona forward Munir.
Crystal Palace have the basis of a side that can kick-on in the Premier League but further additions are definitely needed if the Eagles are to go from relegation contenders to a mid-table, then potentially onto a side fighting for European football.
Burke, just 20, has the ability to become a huge star in the Premier League and the Eagles could be set for a huge week if they manage to land the Scottish international, Skorupski and Munir. However, it’s a very big if.
