The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are relaxed knowing that their team are practically safe for another season in the Premier League.
It really hasn’t been pretty at times but Roy Hodgson has done a tremendous job of reviving their fortunes when it looked likely that they would be relegated. After 7 games, 0 wins and 0 goals at the start of the season, most were expecting them to drop down to the Championship without much of a fight.
Nevertheless, as well as most other teams in the league, Crystal Palace have some weaknesses that they need to take care of this transfer window, with the standout one being the goalkeeper role.
The Eagles have been content with their shot-stopper Wayne Hennessey for a few seasons now but they know that if they want to progress, a bigger and better name is required between the sticks.
Our punters have suggested that Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet, who is valued at £10.8 million on Transfermarkt, would be a good player to get their hands on.
Having been dropped by Liverpool, Mignolet’s career at Anfield is very much in doubt and given Crystal Palace’s need for a top keeper, they could benefit from reviving the Belgians form knowing that he can be a top shot-stopper.
Simon Mignolet has certainly shown the Premier League the type of asset he can be on a good day and considering the lack of better options out there, the Eagles should swarm in for a player who is clearly unsettled and likely wants game-time.
He is inconsistent, granted, but he would likely love the chance to prove himself again in the English top flight. This move could prove to be quite a coup for the Eagles.
