Considering how deflated the Palace fans were at the start of the campaign, now the Transfer Tavern is filled with optimistic Eagles after Roy Hodgson took over the ranks and steered them away from relegation.
Usually a team who had lost 7 out of 7 games and scored no goals in the process would be heading straight down to the Championship, but Crystal Palace showed the resilience and determination needed to stay in the top flight, and so they did eventually.
However, the Eagles still require new faces in the summer because they don’t want a repeat of poor form again.
With a number of positions in mind, a replacement for Wayne Hennessey would be the most desirable. Therefore, seeing as the goalkeeping role is one that they should be looking at changing, our punters feel that Wolfsburg keeper Koen Casteels, who is valued at £5.4 million by Transfer Markt, would be a great addition to the squad.
The Belgian goalkeeeper made 37 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit this season, helping his side to 10 clean-sheets in the process. Casteels, who is still only 25-years-old could prove to be the perfect upgrade on the inconsistent Wayne Hennessey and signal the Eagles’ intent for the 2018/19 season.
Hennessey is out of contract this summer and it remains to be seen as to whether he will be rewarded with a new deal or not. However his form this season suggests that Palace would be wise to explore options elsewhere like Koen Casteels to solidify that department ahead of the new season.
The Eagles have a few stand out players but if they want to push on as a club, they need to make improvements one-by-one, starting with the biggest issue, the goalkeeper.
