Reported Crystal Palace transfer target Omar Elabdellaoui could be set to move to the United Kingdom in the summer transfer window, that is according to the Guardian.
The 28-year-old is currently plying his trade in Greece where he plays for Olympiacos.
According to the report, Palace made an enquiry about signing the Norwegian in the January transfer window, as did Arsenal, Aston Villa and Scottish giants Celtic.
A move never occurred and he remained at Olympiacos where he has been a regular this term, featuring in 32 games across all competitions and scoring one goal (Transfermarkt). However, his contract with the Greek outfit is set to expire this summer and the Guardian suggest that he could be in line for a move to the UK when he becomes a free agent.
The 44-time Norway international actually began his senior career on these shores with Manchester City, although he never managed to make a first-team appearance for the Citizens. He also spent a few months on loan with Hull City in 2017, playing nine times in total (Transfermarkt).
Elabdellaoui would be a smart signing for Crystal Palace if they decide to go back in for him in the summer transfer window. As mentioned, he is an experienced international player who has also played over 40 times in European competition, including 22 appearances in the Champions League proper (Transfermarkt).
It is not often that a player of that pedigree becomes available on a free transfer and at just 28-years-old he is currently enjoying his peak years.
The Eagles currently have something of an ageing midfield with James McArthur turning 33 this year, Cheikhou Koyate turning 31 and James McCarthy turning 30 (Transfermarkt).
Bringing in a fresh face who has great experience at a high level would be a major boost for Palace and would surely add quality to their ranks.
