Crystal Palace TT Roundup: Trio of goalscorers touted as January transfer targets

In this instalment of our TT Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Crystal Palace recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.

According to reports from FcInterNews (via Sport Witness), the Eagles are currently leading the race to sign Brazillian forward Gabriel Barbosa.

The report suggests that they are two English clubs to have ‘moved’ for the forward, and the team from south London are ‘ready to put’ an offer worth £19.58m for the Internazionale forward.

Allegedly, they are one step ahead of the Hammers due to their current managerial situation.

With Palace desperate for a forward, this could be a move that could solve their problems.

They have scored just 11 goals this season from their 13 matches – only Watford have scored less – so a striker who can finish is well on their agenda.

Considering Barbosa has scored 31 goals in 38 games for Flamengo this year, there’s no wonder why they are interested. Furthermore, with his two goals in the Libertadores final, he has shown he has the ability to do it when the stakes are high, so perhaps he is ready to make the step to the Premier League.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via This is Futbol), Roy Hodgson’s side could be gaining the services of Fabio Borini, but may lose two players in the process.

The report suggests that AC Milan could be offered the chance to sign Max Meyer and Christian Benteke as an exchange for the attacker.

Considering the report has no mention of a fee going the Eagles’ way, this deal surely would be benefitting AC Milan more than it would Palace.

The report states how Borini has been frozen out at the San Siro, so his stock isn’t particularly high. Neither is Benteke’s or Meyer’s, though, with both not starting since the second game.

Even still, the combined value of the Palace players is £27m (£13.5 for the Belgian and £13.5 for the German), whereas Borini’s is just £6.3m – meaning that if this deal does come off, the team in red and blue will have gotten he much worse end of the deal.

According to the Express, Rhian Brewster could be set for a temporary spell in south London as Jurgen Klopp is wanting him to go on loan.

They face competition from Aston Villa per the report, but it seems that they are currently leading the race.

With Palace desperate for goals, Brewster hasn’t shown enough for this to be a move to really excite fans.

He is yet to score a senior goal in his career and with the dog-eat-dog nature of the Premier League, Roy Hodgson’s side are in no position to be handing out favours by blooding him in just go give him more experience.
