The Mirror recently reported that Crystal Palace have made an enquiry about Leeds United youngster Jack Clarke.
Leeds rebuffed this initial approach and are adamant that the winger is not for sale. However, the Premier League club have followed up with a £3 million bid, as reported by The Mirror’s live transfer blog (18/01/19 19:55).
Clarke has enjoyed a breakout campaign at Elland Road this season under the guidance of Argentine boss Marcelo Bielsa. The 18-year-old particularly shone in the Whites’ recent triumph over Derby County.
The Championship club may be determined to cling to their academy graduate’s services, but the lure of the top flight could tempt Clarke away.
Clarke would be an exciting acquisition for Crystal Palace. The Leeds wideman certainly has the potential to be a star and Selhurst Park would be a suitable place for him to continue honing his craft.
If the Eagles could force Leeds to part with the youngster for a decent price then that would be excellent business.
However, signing a new winger should not be Roy Hodgson’s primary focus. Palace are already well-stocked on the flanks, with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend impressing out wide this season.
Instead, the south London club must focus on signing a new striker in this January transfer window, which may mean forgetting about Clarke for now.
