According to a recent report from The London Evening Standard, Crystal Palace are interested in a January move for Dominic Solanke. The 21-year-old currently plays his football at fellow Premier League outfit Liverpool and has done so since leaving Chelsea back in 2017, but no senior football under manager Jurgen Klopp this season has called his future at the club into question.

And reports suggest that Roy Hodgson’s Palace are eyeing up a move for the £9 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), with Solanke himself only needing to look at Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s rise to know that Selhurst Park is indeed the place to be.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Chelsea’s Loftus-Cheek has been one of several Blues youngsters over the years to seriously struggle for regular football at Stamford Bridge, thus forcing the 22-year-old to make the loan move to Palace last season in a bid for the first team chances he was unlikely to get at the West London club.

And the midfielder certainly produced the goods during his time across London with two goals and four assists in 24 Premier League appearances for Hodgson’s side, eventually helping them bounce back from a shocking start to finish 11th in the table.

Yes, those numbers are far from ground-breaking, but a lot of what good Palace did in the final third of the pitch came through the 22-year-old, with his meteoric rise exemplified by the fact he earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup during the summer.

And in playing a part in their run to the last four of the competition in Russia with some impressive substitute cameos, it’s clear just what a big impact the stint at Palace had on Loftus-Cheek - he has since returned to Chelsea a much better player.

And that should surely be of interest to compatriot Solanke, who is also in need of a similar boost to get his career going again after leaving Chelsea last year.

The 21-year-old has struggled for regular football at Liverpool in the last 18 months or so, failing to appear at all for the Reds so far this term, and netting on only one occasion last season such was the incredible form of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah.

And with the front three again the main men at Anfield this season, with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge just behind, Solanke simply isn’t going to get much game time between now and May - he might at Palace though.

The Eagles are in need of striking reinforcements given Christian Benteke has missed most of the season so far through injury, with the Londoners netting on just 14 occasions so far this season - only Huddersfield Town (ten) have netted fewer.

And while Solanke hasn’t proven to be overly prolific during his time at Liverpool, his stint at Vitesse suggests that he does have pedigree in front of goal having scored seven times in the 2015/16 season.

Significantly though, Solanke only need look at Loftus-Cheek’s time at Palace to know that a loan spell at Selhurst Park could be the making of him, which is why he must follow his compatriot’s footsteps by moving to the London club in the New Year.
