Rumours are circulating that Crystal Palace will look to buy Olympiakos goalkeeper Jose Sa, according to SDNA.
The goalkeeper supposedly has a £13 million release clause in his contract, but the South London side will face competition from fellow Premier League clubs West Ham and Southampton.
Indeed, the Spaniard is only 27 years old, providing a potential long-term option between the posts in Croydon and has previously been linked with Wolves, so does appear to have impressed would-be suitors on these shores.
Currently, the Eagles have Vicente Guaita as their number one, who has impressed since his free transfer from Getafe in July 2018, per Transfermarkt, keeping 19 clean sheets in 51 appearances. Still, he is now 33 and, while ‘keepers do tend to have longer careers at the top level, surely doesn’t provide as long-term an option as Sa would.
Meanwhile, substitute stopper Wayne Hennessey has made 109 appearances for the club and has only kept 28 clean sheets, via Transfermarkt. Also at the age of 33 and now seen as an understudy given his lack of starts in recent times (the last time he played in the top flight being on the 10th October 2019), it’s not as if he looks to be a long-term option.
For both Sa and Palace, there’s a good opportunity for a top-level shot-stopper to come to the club and be Vicente Guaita’s replacement in the near future.
