Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that Crystal Palace will significantly back Roy Hodgson in the transfer market to improve their fortunes in the New Year.

The Eagles are languishing towards the bottom of the Premier League table following a dismal start to the season. Palace have struggled for goals so far this season and their over-reliance on Wilfried Zaha could cost them dearly. Reports indicate that the Palace board will give the former England manager funds in January to bolster his squad with a striker top of his wish list.

With Christian Benteke failing to prove his worth in the forward line, Hodgson needs a regular goal scorer if Palace are to steer away from the danger zone. Despite Connor Wickham returning to fitness, the Eagles need to sign a top forward with a proven goal record in January. One man they should shortlist is Nantes striker – Emiliano Sala.

Valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has been in fine form in Ligue 1 since joining the club from Bordeaux in 2015. After hitting double figures for goals in his past two seasons, Sala’s hot streak in front of goal has continued into the new campaign with seven goals in seven Ligue 1 appearances so far. His fantastic hat-trick against Toulouse in the 4-0 victory was just a glimpse of his talent.

The 27-year-old is a strong, physically imposing forward who would have no trouble adapting to the Premier League. A move to England’s top division could help him secure a call-up to the Argentina national team and give Palace fans the regular goal scorer they have been craving. At 27-years-old, he is approaching his prime and Hodgson should be the man to benefit.

His arrival at Selhurst Park could be the catalyst for revival in January.
